Introduction

The present business scenario where almost since the last decade the major concern area is 'War for Talent' applying the same at India Inc the situation becomes much more striking. Witnessing the cosmic changes that have taken place in the development of leadership vastly as a discipline, a practice, a competency and a distinctive USP  a lot of pioneering and revolutionary concepts are emerging, shored up by assorted experience of different people either as business players in different sectors and other professionals in wide ranging areas. These speckled experiences and outcomes make us ponder on one common area, which is assessing and developing the idyllic facets of leadership which can in effect bring manifesting or discernible outcomes as desired.

India is blessed as a country where since beginning leaders with unparalleled and unsurpassed qualities in varied fields have left their enduring achievements. With dwindling changes and various transitions that India has undergone in last four to five decades it is not embellishing to say that we have made remarkable growth in various areas. As a country consistency in this demands great commitment, clarity in direction, persistent efforts, acceptability, honesty, integrity and loyalty of a leader along with an articulated vision and innovative ability that can create a difference.

The present article tries to draw important traits of planned transition leadership that was evident during Delhi assembly elections this year. The purpose of the article is to identify the important traits of a sound transitional leadership model that can help a leader to once again emerge and sustain his mission and purpose provided a strong intention and focused attention with consistent assessment.

The following paras talk about important traits for a transition based leadership that can help budding managers or other professionals to set new vistas in their style of leadership.

* A strong agenda and a clear vision with subsequent implementation (not only talks but outcome) - Effectual leaders learn from mistakes made by big players and thus experientially fit such filter mechanism in own system so as to make it fault free from such errors. Thus, learning from other's mistake and ensuring self sustainability that way. Understanding what externally customers needs and analyzing what others failed into can help leader to write own success story. The same happened with long ruling parties where as a result of lack of ethical principles intra- party conflicts, self motives, scam and malpractices completely were taken off the success scene and the winning party acted as a whistleblower from beginning against these  factors. These factors provide buoyancy to the innovative leader in becoming popular across cross sections and across social lines.

* Simple and easily understood portfolio-No leader is a tagged and labeled leader from beginning this term/title  is only an outcome when  the ideology, values, vision, principles, action points, change directions, attitude and mindset  is been shared by mass of people ,then it can be said that a leader is emerging  depending on his motives, desires, approach and the tangible   end result that he creates .It is always easy to be a part of crowd and always difficult to be  a leader matching mindsets ,meeting expectations, being the first to do everything, being accountable for  the complete team and  thus attempting to create oneness in diversity. When as a person Kejriwal launched AAP it drew large numbers of blue collared workers as well as white collared people which helped in making the party a success.

* Clear outcome/Tangible outcomes-Hitting the right issue-For a leader it is important to focus on what is called the Hot Issue with remedial model. From the victory of AAP it is quite clear that inequality is the hot issue and for dexterous leadership it is important to be free from any such bias and hitting such common cries help in sustaining leadership and keeping the team strong.

Apart from this working for the right factor is important. For e.g all parties talked about women safety whereas AAP talked about creating public places safe for women, promise for setting Women security force, CCTV'S in DTC, more ladies buses, providing gender sensitive training of police and government workforce, stricter punishment for crimes, street lighting across the roads etc. thus the manifesto of a  championing leader should include aspects that are of relevance and well being of masses

* Participative leadership with BOP model-It is not always the very long term and highly strategic plans that works at times the leader needs to focus on why am I approach and for whom since the moment it becomes I'm one amongst You and when existence and accessibility for common or majority can be made matched with a clear agenda and substantial upshot the result are highly blustering. The same was seen as the success clear beneficiary which AAP party hit i. e being with the marginal and disenfranchised segment.

But the other fact that cannot be ignored is changing behavioral and decisional factors of voters thus transforming the whole countries political and democratic outlook in context to voters the same was evident in victory of the last parliamentary elections and in same in Delhi assembly elections. Thus being with the masses and thus ensuring own sustainability becomes the key trait for present leader.

* Talking about short term and immediate problems

* Positive outlook towards criticism-A good leader should not involve in undesired politics or blame game but should stick towards his own goals in the benefit of masses. It is quite evident that the followers or members do not support or like wholeheartedly  leaders which play foul or follow politicking  approach rather those leaders are highly appreciated who with their ethical foundation drive and propel team success and take criticism in  the most constructive  way. The same worked well in Delhi assembly election where irrespective of all negative campaign against AAP they stood sturdy and the negativism only hampered the other party. Thus, rather than following a negative and revenge attitude following the realistic principles and honest intentions a team can lead.

* Self determination, clarity of thought, seeking help and cooperation attitude-We need you, NO I only WE-Apart from the mentioned factors in this characteristic feature one related fact is that  a leader should be aware with the preferred model of governance that people look for and it is that fact which works as a appeal for the leader the masses , the Gen y and I needs a completely different governance and  a completely new set of politics which the winners/true leaders foresees. This all shows that with changing time even the leadership is now- a- days a formal anointment of a new brand of politics.

* Strongly sustained supporter base-For a leader much of the success is dependent on what bonding, reliability and promising support that the supporters hold towards him or her. This is an important factor that decides the future success. In context to learning from AAP victory the leader of this team who started his political career as a crusader against wrong practices, appealing to large masses of middle class in Delhi slowly gradually transformed his image as an epitome of economically disenfranchised. He equally did not ignore people living in slums, those who are economically vulnerable; those disenchanted with congress (other competitive party) right from blue collared employees, auto rickshaw drivers to best well heeled people thus ensuring a highly diverse mix of people.

The same applies to a transformational and effectual leader who needs to have a clear, specific and concise agenda of its purpose, approach and agenda behind the formation of team.

* Keeping small in-group with focused approach

* Hitting the right target at the right time-It is  not always  the promising yes customers or team members that peripherally display a supportive behavior ,with respect to managing risk and remaining adept to a crisis situation a leader needs to be distinctive with respect to the areas which the other competitor may  underestimate or ignore completely that is what the winning party took advantage of educated middle class, people living in slums, migrants, economically weaker sections etc.

* Mass awareness and utilization of technology(Combined approach)- Not only the principle of forgiveness and admitting mistakes  helps a leader to be effectual but also  utilizing the technology to reach the masses and make the team aware of goals, aspirations, possible actions a, current process and the possible outcome. With present business scenario where technology and competition go hand in hand the role of 'deliverables' cannot be ignored, without this making a viral appeal is not possible for e.g initiating the Delhi Dialogue an initiative to build action plan and vision for the party through  ground level discussions on issues  like education,  water, electricity, women safety, free wireless connectivity and alike helped the party to revive and win.

* Consistent positive presence

* Action oriented approach

* Principle of Forgiveness-To err is human goes the saying it is true for everyone who takes risks and tries to reduce uncertainty in which at times because of many reasons we make mistakes or cannot prove our self as per expectations of members. This becomes severe when it only leads to conflicts, differences, arguments, blame game thus vanishing the true purpose of team, contrast to this when a leader accepts his mistakes and apologize ensuring their rectification in the best interest of people and thus start showing similar creative and innovative steps thus filling the gap, this helps in once again reviving the lost faith, trust, differences and thus setting tone once again. Thus  a leader needs to realize his mistake at right time and  take preventive or precautionary measures to overcome the same. The same could be seen with retreat of AAP as a party with same tactful behavior accepting and clarifying the reasons and promising for a better performance thus addressing 110 public rallies in 70 different constituencies made a huge difference.

* Ability to connect(the connectedness factor) –One of the most crucial and vital factor in the   framework of  possessing a veteran leadership is that of connectedness , much of the team gets de-motivated or develops a pseudo perception or assumed assessment about a leader just due to lack of connectedness. It is this factor that when utilized fruitfully can help a leader to withstand all pressures and sustain and if not tapped can be disastrous. The same factor worked well at Delhi where connectedness with the electorate that the vague and uncertain voters choose AAP. Thus, a better connectedness helps team to remain informed and prepared to perform and keep aspirations high irrespective of all odds.

When a leader is able to give deliverables which are actually the most recent and immediate (urgent) need of people (read: masses) then striking a chord with people becomes easier and thus helping leader for quick disposition (e.g people really did not feared police during his 49 days of power. With majority population at Delhi suffering with water and electricity problem the promises of AAP came as a rosy picture and also compared with the existing government in power it was he who had a distinctive appeal.

* Qualification and administrative ability(to understand the basics)

* Successful track record (past)-Experience and re-applying the past learning for a futuristic outlook-The leader emerged as an off shoot of anti-corruption moment with veteran activist in 2010-11 formally the party was launched but after its poor performance idea of a new politics took a backseat. Then again the party took time to rejuvenate their plans and act in accord. Further promising for all basic facilities, passing the Jan Lokpal Bill ,Swaraj bill, quick disposal, full statehood, reducing cost and eradicating corruption. Thus for a leader learning from past and preparing fo future  based on past learning thus improvising the system is necessary.

* The Common man approach(One amongst you) team hood approach

* Clean Image, disciplined, transparent and careful election of team and size of in-group

* Not cribbing against  the loss but re-strengthening the present resource

* Clarity in communication- Clear thought process with no uncertainty, Easily approachable and accessibility

* Cool calm and composed personality

* Dream merchant-Futuristic vision –helping team to visualize the positive outcome and future

* No VIP /supra personality hierarchical mindset

* Acceptance, apologies and improvement-thus makes retreats (recollects strength and collectivism of ideas and team spirit

* Very good at communication to masses -It is the clarity and conviction matched with modesty that helps a leader to win both heart and minds .As per the theory of election based on a study conducted by ADR and Daksh the bandwagon  theory works which states that the voters/supporters /followers do not follow a leader who is unwinnable, people are  more inclined towards second best candidate who has chances to win thus the voters give a decisive mandate .It is thus the skill of consistent and clear communication with great appeal and with facts that help in gaining confidence and support of people.

* Great success and  supraordinate performance as results –As witnessed in the historic victory of 'AAP'  with tally of67 leaving just three seats for other strong party  it can be understood that a leader when right from foundation phase lays a clear picture ,understanding own SWOT  and preparing a competitive strategic advantage profile  based on that with fitting the right person at right task with integrated principles and consistent feedback/interaction with followers or possible (future) followers, it becomes easier to swop away the bigger challenging groups/rivals/competition that way. But what is required is preparation, consistency and clear communication.

* Conclusion

A common quote goes like "Leadership is a recipe", different for all irrespective of similar ingredients apparently still the outcome varies. It is true that both push and pull forces exist in setting mindset and giving the right deliverables  but what is important today is developing ability for sustainability. A sustainable leadership model which is both socioclinical approach based can only lead the goals to be achieved and make our country once again revive and recuperate its vigor, fame and leadership across.
