ISB and EY jointly set up the Initiative for Emerging Markets Studies (IEMS) in India
Partnership to Pursue Research Agenda on Issues Confronting Emerging Markets

Mumbai, February 23, 2016:   The Indian School of Business (ISB) and EY, leading global professional services organisation have set up the ISB-Initiative for Emerging Markets Studies (IEMS). The Initiative will pursue research and thought leadership on issues facing businesses and policy makers in emerging markets under the aegis of the EY supported Institute of Emerging Markets Studies.

The EY-IEMS is a global network of academic institutions that are based in emerging markets. The purpose of the network is to create insightful, connected and responsive thought leadership about economic issues in emerging markets. It also aims to participate in and lead the discussion on various policy-making forums related to emerging markets. The insightful perspectives that emerge from these discussions will help decision makers on issues that matter to the global economy. ISB joined the EY-IEMS network in 2014 and this joint initiative has further strengthened the relationship.

"We are delighted with this partnership with ISB, which re-enforces EY's commitment to the emerging markets. These markets have a dynamic and unique business environment, where the forces of technology, entrepreneurship, innovation and financial inclusion are transforming existing business models. I believe that our collaboration will provide both governments and businesses with the insights that can help them shape their future agenda for growth in these markets." said Rajiv Memani, Chairman EY India and Chairman of the Global Emerging Markets Committee.

Commenting on the initiative, Professor Rajendra Srivastava, Dean, ISB, said, "ISB is very excited to strengthen its partnership with EY by establishing the IEMS, whose mission is to provide thought leadership on the challenges and opportunities facing businesses and policy-makers in emerging markets. The initiative is in alignment with ISB's belief in a balance between the best of Asian insights with that of the West. It also aims at a balance between theory and practice for impact on business strategy and public policy and on a multi-disciplinary approach in its research and programmes."

Professor Sanjay Kallapur, Director, ISB-IEMS said, "The IEMS at ISB will provide insights on fast-evolving emerging market environments through research aimed at decision makers and managers. It will also participate in and lead the discussion on policy-making forums."

Connected and continuous learning is vital for businesses to effectively respond to change in this globally integrated business environment. Our effort through the ISB-IEMS is to direct the most relevant insights on the key developments and trends in the emerging markets to help businesses tailor their strategies based on that understanding." said Farokh Balsara, Partner and India Markets Leader, EY.

Apart from ISB, the other members in the global academic network include the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, and the SKOLKOVO Moscow School of Management with which EY has a similar understanding to promote entrepreneurship, develop the future workplace and cultivate the next generation of strong leaders. The network is dedicated to the study of the impact of macroeconomics in the global market place and aims to partake in relevant activities and initiatives.
