Ahmedabad: Our Guest Editor can sit back and bask in the glory of another institution he heads - the, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

IIM-A, with NR Narayana Murthy as chairman of the board of governors, has made a huge impression on B-school students from across the world currently attending its annual event, Confluence. Foreign MBA students are gushing with praise at everything from the aesthetics of the Louis-Kahn designed campus to the affability of the alumni and the modesty of arguably the best young brains in the country.

Elizabeth Corcoran, an, MBA student at the ESADE Business School in Barcelona, said, "The standard of education here is top class." This feeling was echoed by Kimberly Curtis from Brisbane Graduate School of Business who referred to the IIM-A students as "brilliant".

The IIM-A students won some fans with their inter-personal skills as well. Dutchman Rutger Mans spoke of their "remarkable modesty" .

Indeed, in American and European schools, these "soft skills" are highly valued. "Indian culture lends itself to inter-personal skills," believes Corcoran who says "students here have been friendly and approachable".

Confluence itself is being well received by its international invitees. "This is much bigger than any event in Europe, it's extremely professional," commented Mans. The foreign students, many of whom came to Confluence to gain firsthand experience of one of the world's fastest growing economies, were impressed by the presence of, key dignitaries. Lucas Portillo from the Rotman school of Management in Toronto found the calibre of speakers, including Sunil Mittal and Mukesh Ambani, as outstanding.

One source of surprise for the international students has been the age of IIM-A's students, many of whom are in their early to mid-twenties. The foreign MBA students, on the other hand, tend to be in their late twenties or early thirties. Indeed, European and American business schools only consider candidates with five to six years work experience.
