Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal, Kumar Birla, Mallya
Among The Leading Lights
IIM-A basks in Confluence of topdogs

Ahmedabad's finally got its share of glitterati as leading lights of business and the political world have dawned in the city. There is no champagne flowing here, no wild parties. But we did hear a thousand cheers at the
Ravi Matthai auditorium at the IIM-A campus today as a bevy of stars came calling at 'Confluence', the B-school's annual congregation.

The budding management students couldn't have asked for more. Two of modern India's finest entrepreneurs - Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Bharti Mittal, chief executives of blue-chip firms and N Chandrababu Naidu, former CM
(or CEO?) of Andhra Pradesh, made up the list of stalwarts who touched down in the city today.

Saturday will be no different either. In town will be chairman of Aditya Birla group Kumar Mangalam Birla and liquor baron and promoter of Kingfisher Airline Vijay Mallya. Many more top executives, some of who have passed out from IIM-A's famous Vastrapur campus, will be there to share moments of past and visions of the future.

The sudden deluge of stars, the flight delays notwithstanding, has kept the staff at the city's airport busy. So has been the police in both Ahmedabad and capital Gandhinagar. Some of them were seen at the IIM campus screening entries into the Ravi Matthai auditorium, leaving many students complaining about high-handed-ness by the event managers.

Students who were in-charge of the event, getting their first real test of management perhaps, were seen trying to manage time and space, between the VVIPs and other guests. Students, many who came from other B-schools from within India and overseas, showed keen interest in what the speakers said; a few even asked tricky questions. But many foreign students said they were surprised to find that Mr. MittaI and Mr. Ambani were "being treated like movie stars". Even the czars were surprised on being hounded for autographs. Some students, ET learnt, chose to spend the afternoon in their hostel. Another set of their stars had chosen to bat first at Eden Garden and the passion for cricket forced them "to skip those power-point presentations".
