NITIE Placements 2006: Breaking Barriers!

NITIE proved again why it is considered to be a preferred destination for the crème de la crème of the industry with a phenomenal record of placements of the PGDIM Class of 2006. The Placement process held in the first week of January was designed so that both the stakeholders namely the students and the companies had enough time to evaluate and come to the best decision. This year saw many new companies coming to campus such as Olam International, Deloitte Consulting, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank, Computer Sciences Corporation, Cypress, SBI Caps, ICICI Prudential etc. The year saw a boom in the number of jobs offered in the Banking (Investment & Retail)/Financial Services and Consultancy domains.

The process kicked off with 21 PPO's and 14 PPI's being offered. The laterals conducted for the first time in NITIE was a huge success with 24 people accepting offers. Those with prior work experience were duly rewarded with highly lucrative offers. The laterals repeatedly saw companies offering premium salaries to bag students of their choice. It saw students accepting offers with profiles ranging from Strategy/General Management to Consulting.

Companies across various sectors like FMCG, Banking (Investment & Retail), Insurance, Financial Services, Pharma, Manufacturing, Automobile, IT etc, made their presence felt which provided the students an opportunity to apply for jobs across various functions and sectors in areas of their interest. Foreign offers from companies like Olam International and consulting offers were seen ruling the roost.

The Consulting domain saw some big names from the industry like Deloitte Consulting, TSMG, KPMG, IBM, Accenture, Ernst&Young and ECS. Banks and Financial Institutions made their presence felt in a remarkable manner this year with companies like Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank, ICICI Bank, Citigroup, SBI Caps, Reliance Capital, HDFC Bank, UTI Bank, ICICI Prudential, Adventity and GE Shipping Corporation visiting campus. The FMCG sector had regulars like P&G, HLL, ITC, Cadbury, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Coke, Reckitt Benckiser, Asian Paints, Cargill Foods and Marico. Recruiters from the Pharmaceutical Sector included Glaxo SmithKline, Dr.Reddy's Lab and Glenmark. Technology & IT sector had Intel, HP, CSC, Cypress, Cognizant Technological Solutions, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech, Satyam and MindTree Consulting. The Core & Manufacturing Sector included Maruti, Dupont, TATA Motors, TVS Motors, Anand Group and Murugappa Group etc.

The jobs offered ranged from Consulting, Financial Services, Marketing, SCM, Systems/IT to Strategy and General Management. The leading recruiters in terms of offers made included P&G, Standard Chartered, Deloitte Consulting, IBM, ICICI Bank, ICICI Prudential, Intel, Infosys, Cypress and Cognizant Technological Solutions. The joy of the students was unbounded as most of them were seen getting multiple offers of their choice in terms of Job profile and sector they wanted to work in. The indications of a strong and booming economy was there for all to see, and the faith shown by the corporate world in the students of NITIE once again came to the fore.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ashok Pundir, Associate Dean (Placement) said, "The placement results for 2006 have been phenomenal. Participating in the campus recruitment process were over 90 firms. The highlight of these placements was the emergence of Consulting and Financial Sectors as the preferred choice among students with almost 50% of the students accepting job offers across various functional areas in these domains."
