Jammu & Kashmir to get its first B-school

Kashmir will soon have its first business school with the setting up of a private international management college by Wigan & Leigh College (WLC) in Srinagar in August.

This was announced by WLC India, Director Vinay Pasricha at a news conference here.

"To begin with, the WLC will offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business Management, Advertising and Graphic Design, Media Studies and Fashion Technology," he added.

Pasricha said the first batch will commence in August and about 200 students are expected to be enrolled in the courses.

The WLC (India), a part of Wigan & Leigh College (United Kingdom), will offer 50 per cent scholarship to 20 meritorious students, he added.

Pasricha said the entrance examination (Wigan Aptitude Test) is scheduled to be conducted in May, June and July.

"The WLC will be set up here with a distinct objective to bring professional education at par with international standards being provided anywhere in the world, and at the doorsteps of the people of Kashmir," he added.

Pasricha said the WLC will provide the same learning and job opportunities to students in Kashmir as being done across the country.

"This will enable students of Jammu and Kashmir to have the knowledge, skills and understanding required to perform in a competitive global economy apart from creating a wealth of job opportunities for them," he added.

Pasricha said the college will offer many unique advantages, including an up-to-date industry relevant course curriculum, paid traineeship, faculty with rich industry experience and tie-ups with universities across the world.

"The traineeship programme is the heart of our teaching methodology. We believe that learning must not only take place in the classroom, but simultaneously at the workplace," he added.
