IIMK's Summer Placements - A Perfect Ten
 

Celebrating ten years of excellence, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode witnessed what was definitely IIMK's best placement event ever. Summer internship recruitments at IIM Kozhikode for the Class of 2008 concluded midway on Day 1, closing two days ahead of the originally scheduled four days.

63 of the best organizations from India and abroad vied for top talent from amongst the 185 strong batch. Of these 63 companies, 33 were new additions over last year, indicating the strong image IIMK has created in the recruiters' minds over the past decade.

Some prominent names that recruited interns this year include Goldman Sachs, Yahoo!, Deloitte Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers, JP Morgan Chase, Cadbury, Standard Chartered Bank, Al Aqili Group, Colgate Palmolive and Olam International. Recruiters like HLL and HSBC Bank too returned to the campus after a brief hiatus.

Yahoo! offered the highest domestic stipend of Rs.45,000 per month, to six students. Overall, the stipends rose by nearly 35% over last year as the average domestic stipend touched Rs.20,000 per month. Yahoo!, PwC, Cognizant and Standard Chartered Bank were among the many recruiters who offered the highest number of internship positions across B-schools to IIMK.

International recruiters like Olam International, Dubai-based Al Aqili Group, Pittsburgh-based Calance Corporation, Emirates Bank International and US Technology recruited students from IIMK for their summer internship programmes. Tata Motors offered international roles to two students – again, the most offers made in a single campus. Apart from these, a renowned IT giant and an Investment Management and Research player also offered positions to students in Singapore and New York. These took the number of offers by international recruiters to eleven.

The roles across verticals were well distributed. Consulting and operations roles attracted 17% of the students, Marketing – 30%, Finance – 26%, IT – 21% and HR – 6%. Apart from the traditional roles, companies like SET and PagalGuy.com offered media roles. PagalGuy.com offered a unique entrepreneurial profile.

In a quote reflective of recruiters' confidence about IIMK, Michael Joseph, Head - Resourcing, OLAM International, said: "Recruiting summer interns from IIM Kozhikode has been a fantastic experience. As we look at scaling our 'Global Talent Pool' in OLAM International, our relationship with IIM Kozhikode will play a significant role in the future.

Placement Chairperson Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni remarked "IIMK has been growing with tremendous pace during the past decade. Excellent summer placements this year is just one part of this growth story."

Overall, the high point of Summer Placements 2007 at IIMK was not the fact that the 185 students were placed by Day 1, nor was it the high stipends and nor was it the 11 International offers – instead it was the fact that such a large number of students got precisely the job and role that they wanted, in their dream company.
