Cobbling up the diastema between industry and Institute at Lakshya 06, NITIE
 


Lakshya – a beacon of light emanating out of NITIE to dispel the cimmerian surrounding the industries is the one of the most respected corporate event of the country. The first day of the grand event witnessed the icons pouring in the NITIE campus from myriad celebrated industrial houses of India. The occasion was to award Lakshya Business Visionary 2006 to Chairman ITC Ltd. Mr. Y.C Deveshwar, Chairman Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
Mr. Keshub Mahindra and Chairman Wipro Technologies Ltd., Mr Azim Premji. Mr. Rajat
Sharma ,Chairman India TV was awarded Best Startup Entrepreneur of the year 2006. Honorable Finance Minister, Govt of Maharashtra Shri Jayant Patil was the Chief Guest of the grandeur. The main concern expressed was how to empower the rural India with innovation and comprehensive infrastructure development.

After touching the pinnacle of success on the first day, Lakshya took its glory to the fore on the second day as well. After the first day presentations in Supply Chain Management and Systems & IT Management modules on 13th October 2006, the spotlight shifted to the remaining two modules, namely Operations Management and General & HR Management. Newfangled projects meticulously carried out by proficient managers were presented in front of the jury members from illustrious organizations. The jury members consisting of VPs and CEOs complimented the students of PGDIE for holding such a confluence of industry giants and young brains, which serves as a wonderful learning exercise for both of them.

Empresario - the event celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship at NITIE, Mumbai on 15th October 2006 under the aegis of Lakshya 2006 culminated with churning out the gist that the thriving entrepreneurial spirit is a recipe of dream, belief and passion. The day was full of events that aimed at infusing the sapient elements of entrepreneurship in the students. Mr. Harish Mittal, Chairman & Managing Director, Mercator Lines Ltd. was bestowed the Empresario Most Inspiring Entrepreneur of the year. The award ceremony was followed up by the B-Plan contest and Spardha, which attracted participation from far-famed B-Schools like IIM-A IIM-C, IIM-L, XLRI, ISB, FMS, IIT-B, SIBM, DCE, SPJIMR, NMIMS, only to name a few. In the B-Plan contest, the team from FMS Delhi emerged victorious for the effectiveness and perspicuity with which they presented their B-Plan. The winning team was awarded incubation from NirmaLabs worth Rs 20 Lakhs for the fruition of its B-Plan along with a cash prize of Rs.30000. Spardha captivated the attention of a caboodle of students, as it consisted of many incisive and brainstorming management games, coercing the students to cogitate the solution of the given problem during the contest.  In the elevator pitch idea presentation the team from IIFT clinched the first prize for its spontaneity and efficacy of presentation.

The resplendence of Empresario continued further with D'Apprendre, where Mr. R. Sriram, founder of Crossword bookstores and Mr. Dheeraj Gupta, founder JumboKing Vadapav shared their success stories with the audience. Their amulet was that "for success, a combination of vision and venture is required". These entrepreneurial lectures, moderated by Mr. Manak Singh, Director TiE Mumbai, gave some really utile inputs to those who aspire to pave the way for themselves and egress as successful entrepreneurs in future. The day also saw the valediction of the winners of Samadhan - a series of online quizzes organized exclusively for engineering students. This event is unsurpassable in the essence that NITIE is the first B-School to devise such a quiz contest for budding engineers.

The galore of events came to an end with exalting words by Dr. Subhash D. Awale, Director NITIE who rated the event as "Flawless" and said that in the form of Lakshya, students are not only learning management but also practicing it. Lakshya 2006 ended on a wild foot note, but the road to learning never ends.

"The Lakshya of excellence will continue at NITIE."
