Highlights of CAT 2012 Results

"It's heartening to note that the IIMs are ushering in the New Year with a talent pool that is both diverse and inclusive representing all sections of the society. The CAT 2012 Results indicate that the rhetoric of inclusion indeed matches the reality inside IIM classrooms. We are glad that we started the trend of greater gender diversity inside IIMs. We trust that the classroom learning will be an enriching experience for those who finally find their way  to the IIMs this year " said Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode.

CAT 2012 is significant as there is an increase in registrations, first time after moving to a computer based testing platform. The growth in registrations is all encompassing cutting across the categories and gender. The number of girls registering and appearing for the test showed a considerable uptrend. This development might be seen as a response to the gender diversity in classrooms being sought by most IIMs following IIM Kozhikode's shift in admissions policy. In addition, candidates from lesser privileged sections of the society are also registering in increasing numbers and are also excelling in the test.

In all a total of 191,642 candidates appeared in the 21-day long testing window from Oct 11 2012 to Nov 6 2012. The results of CAT 2012 will be declared on January 9 2013. Highlights of CAT 2012 results are:

1. Ten students with 100 percentile scores one of them is studying science at Delhi University and remaining come from engineering discipline. Eight of these students with the perfect scores come from IITs. Five of the ten students are still in their final year of graduation.

2. Four girls share the honours of scoring 99.99 percentile, highest score from among the girls. All these engineering students in their final year are studying in different parts of the country Karnataka, Orissa, Delhi and UP. In all 255 girls and 1640 boys scored more than 99 percentile.
