ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The growth of India lies in its villages. The real economic growth of India predominantly depends on enhancing the standard of living of rural people. There exists a lopsided growth and development between urban and rural India due to uneven distribution of income and wealth to the latter. The main reason of this dismal picture is being reluctant on the part of banks to provide rural credit at reasonable rates of interest.  Moreover, there is a lack of awareness among rural people about the existence of banking network as they have a wrong notion that banks are only for elites. To remove these maladies, rural people have to be empowered economically. This is achieved only through the creation of well-knitted banking network which is imperative to India's inclusive growth.  Hence, the Government shall strengthen its banking network in providing rural credit so as to have a balanced growth and development which ultimately paves a way for the creation of employment opportunities, enhancing literacy levels, eradicating poverty and increasing the standard of living of rural people. In this backdrop, the seminar is aimed to deliberate over the issues in extending rural credit through banks and explore the ways and means to increase the standard of living of rural masses.
In this regard, the research papers are invited in the following sub-themes for constructive deliberations:
* Financial Literacy
* Role of NABARD and RRBs in Rural Development
* Role of Co-operatives and Commercial Banks in Rural Development
* Priority Sector Lending
* Financial Aid to Rural Entrepreneurs
