'Globalizing Indian Thought'
IIM Kozhikode to host Second Pan-IIM World Management Conference

Kozhikode, 17 October, 2014: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode is hosting the Second Pan-IIM World Management Conference supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and collectively organized by 13 IIMs. The conference will be held at IIM Kozhikode campus* in Kerala, from November 05 08, 2014 on the theme 'Globalizing Indian Thought.'

'Globalizing Indian Thought', the theme emphasises the Indian management approaches that have found international recognition in recent times. Indian businesses have evolved their own management styles such as Jugaad innovation and India as a country has a rich legacy of its original science such as yoga, Ayurveda, vastushastra, etc. These practices and techniques have caught global attention. The conference aims at bringing together global scholars to one of the fastest growing economies of the world. The conference will deliberate on issues that impact global management thoughts in the years to come.

Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Director, IIM Kozhikode said, "IIMs have different functional and sectoral expertise, region specific industry access and clout and understanding of local practices. Collectively IIMs can emerge as a formidable force in exploring newer frontiers of management science. The west is increasingly interested today in decoding the phenomena in the emerging markets."

Apart from IIM professors, the conference will have invited experts from Wharton Business School, ESCP Paris, policy makers, leaders from Indian industry who would share Indian management thinking and how it can impact global businesses. About 250+ scholars in management discipline are expected to share their research ideas.

Prof. Saji Gopinath, Conference Co-chair and Dean Academic, IIM Kozhikode,  said, "With IIM alumni in leadership positions in global businesses and at the forefront of management thinking, the world knows that IIMs attract and churn out the best talent. The time, for IIMs, has come to not only provide talent to the world but also shape future management thinking by producing world-class research".

More importantly, apart from the Common Admission Test (CAT), this is another big platform that brings all IIMs together. As the number of IIMs is reaching a critical mass, it is time for IIMs to think how the brand IIM can be leveraged to make a global impact.

The Department of Higher Education, MHRD endeavours not just to increase the number of institutes of national importance but strengthen them by bringing them under one umbrella so that they emerge as institutes of not just national importance but of the global significance.
