Saarang, the cultural festival of IIT Madras is an ISO 9001:2008 certified, wholly student organized festival that
sees a dedicated team of several hundred students strive hard to make it all happen. The 5 day celebration has over 50 events and something to amaze everyone in the crowd. Participants from over 500 colleges across the country
contribute to the footfall in excess of 50,000 that Saarang witnesses every year.
This Saarang, themed as "Out of the World", will be a five-day dose of pure, expressive brilliance guaranteed to amaze. From 7th to 11th
January, 2015, the usually serene campus of IIT Madras will turn into a pulsating arena of fiery, dedicated performances and competitions.
Saarang, this time around, has surpassed all previous outreach initiatives. It has
created a well-established online presence with dedicated on-ground activities, such as the successful Saarang social outreach programmes. This Saarang saw a successful edition of Saarang Milan – a series of events conducted in the
cities of Mangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kochi and Bangalore to reach out to the youth. This year, light music Band Hunt competitions were held at Pune, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kochi and Bangalore as a part of Saarang Milan.
Milan Band hunt events are massive crowd pullers and have seen colossal participation from the crowd all over the country. The main aim of Milan is to bring budding talent into the limelight at Saarang 2015. The winners are given a
direct entry into 'Tarang', one of the biggest competitions in the Indian Light Music scene along with a free paid trip to IIT Madras.
The various Literary Events like Cluedo, Crossie, Scrabble, and What's The Good Word are
back with a bang this year for wordplay junkies. Dance events at Saarang are diverse and offer something to every style. Quizzes, Thespian Events, Speaking Events, Fine Arts and Writing Events offer scope for prodigious talent
across the country.
For those looking for inspiration, Saarang presents a series of Lectures and Demonstrations, which will host notable personalities like Padma Bhushan awardee and badminton legend Pullela Gopichand,
bestselling author Anita Nair, Ritesh Batra, scriptwriter and director of "Lunchbox", Anjali Menon, director of "Ustad Hotel", Resul Pookutty, winner of an Academy award with "Slumdog Millionaire" and Bombay Jayashree, nominee of
the Academy Award 2013 for best original song.
Professional Shows are probably the most awaited events at Saarang. With some of the most acclaimed artists from over the country and the world all set to entertain, this
Saarang promises one better. From Padma Shri awardees Shobana and Aruna Sairam taking centre stage at Classical Night on January 7th to Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan on Popular night- it's five electric performances every music
lover will earmark and not miss.
Choreo Night will feature the biggest intercollegiate group dance competition in India, the nation's best dance crews and their bewitching acts all in one night and one place. This Saarang,
we also bring to you, as the headlining act for the Rock Show – Karnivool, a progressive rock band from Australia, one of the bands that established the Australian metal movement. This band has played at some of the biggest
festivals in the world and toured and collaborated with some of the idolized names in the metal world. The EDM night will witness Nucleya, Thermal Projekt and Progressive Brothers and a spellbound audience. And finally, the last
day of Saarang will feature Sunidhi Chauhan, the regular topper of the Bollywood charts. It just can't get any better. Saarang is here – Heaven can wait indeed.
The World Culture Festival will enthrall with its array of
international performers. This January, Saarang plans to put together little packages of surprise from culture-hubs across the globe. Introducing 'WorldFest' - a melange of cultural influences, spread over the world, all in one
place, just for you! And it is not just music. The WorldFest promises to offer music transcending genres and much more, with the likes of food festivals, workshops, photo galleries, film exhibitions, and what not. The WorldFest is
sure to give each one of you a taste of a culture of your choice. With over a half a dozen countries like Philippines, England, Israel, Romania, Indonesia, Singapore and Poland, WorldFest is all set to light up Saarang 2015!
A multitude of shows and events, like Pawel Skora-the famous freestyle footballer, Mark Bonafide-the exhilarating Singapore rapper, HUMANFOLK-the band with likes of Johnny Alegre and Roberto Rodriguez, The Amsterdams- a Romanian
band who've opened shows for a multitude of noteworthy European concerts, and to crown it all, Inca Babies from England who rocked the stage at Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2014, who'll be making their first appearance in India.
Imagine all this with free entry.
With sponsors like SBI, Nokia, TOI, Pepsi, Canara Bank and Britannia in the past, Saarang has gone miles ahead in terms of publicity and public relations. We have also partnered with eminent
companies for sponsorship, like MRF, Pepsi, Microsoft V Fest, Canara Bank, Inox, Ola Cabs and Olx.in for a greater reach.
Saarang has always been proud of being more than a cultural fest and a musical extravaganza. It looks
to give back to the society and aspires to change lives of the not so privileged. It was this notion that saw the beginning of Saarang Eunoia – the umbrella term for its social outreach programmes. Three years since its inception,
Saarang Eunoia has turned into an integral part of the fest. The initiative continues to elicit heartwarming responses from the students in the campus. The Eunoia campaign this year is focused on contributing to cancer research and
increasing cancer awareness.
Within itself, Saarang maintains both cultural and social aspects. Touching upon fields ranging from dance and drama to magic and adventure, Saarang shall bring forth the best in every field. We
aim for this Saarang to be the largest and grandest Saarang ever, yet!
