May 6, 2015: Starting salaries have topped Rs 18 lakh per annum during Thapar University's placement season for 2014-15 as marquee names in the global IT and consulting space make attractive offers to recruit the university's industry-ready talent.

The highly successful placements at Thapar University, Patiala drew a bevy of global and domestic corporate giants such as Microsoft, DE Shaw, Deloitte and Zomato, and once again underscored the strong industry-oriented technical education that Thapar University imparts.

While the average gross salary offered to BE/B.Tech passouts of the university comes to Rs 5.42 lakh per annum, over 25% higher than last year despite the slump in the job market, two BE students of the university have bagged an annual package of Rs 18.6 lakh per annum, the highest for this session, from DE Shaw India Software. Microsoft India Development Centre (IDC) has offered the next best annual package of Rs 18 lakh to another two students, followed by Snapdeal and Myntra, who have hired six students at an annual package of Rs 15.25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, respectively.

While 10
Thapar University students have bagged an annual package of Rs 15 lakh and above, about 30 students have secured packages exceeding Rs 10 lakh from reputed organisations like Sandisk Corporation, Zomato, Free Scale Semiconductors and Hike. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has hired the maximum number of students (100) this year as well, followed by Accenture Services (94) and IBM (36).

About 70% Thapar University students have been placed already with 796 of them landing jobs with 125 reputed organisations. As the placement season is at its peak, many more students are set to secure rewarding jobs in the next couple of months.
