National Council Educational Research & Training
Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110 016

National Talent Search Examination - 2003

National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT) awards 1000 Scholarships with a provision of 150 for Scheduled Castes and 75 for Scheduled Tribes to the talented students of class X each year through its National Talent Search Scheme and then nurture the talent by way of providing financial assistance in the form of both monthly Scholarship and annual book grant. The awardees continue to receive the scholarship up to Ph.D. level for pursing their education in basic sciences and social sciences and upto second-degree level for pursuing professional courses like engineering, medicine and management.

The selection for the award of scholarships under the scheme is done in two stages. The first stage selection is done by the individual States/UTs through a written examination conducted usually between October and December each year. The written examination normally has two parts: Part-I Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Part-II Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The States/UTs lay down their own norms for determining the eligibility of the candidates and publish the date of state level examination and other conditions at an appropriate time through the agency nominated by it.

The candidates studying in class X and desirous of appearing in the said examination may contact the Principal of the school in which they are studying or the Liaison Officer of the agency mentioned below in their own State/UT.

On the basis of State Level Examination each State/UT recommends a stipulated number of candidates to the NCERT for the second level examination. The Indian students studying abroad can also compete for Talent Search Award under certain conditions and can appear directly at the second level examination conducted by the Department of Educational Measurement & Evaluation, NCERT. The second stage selection involves both written examination (MAT and SAT) and face-to-face interview for the award of scholarship. The next National Level Talent Search Examination will be held on second Sunday of May i.e. 11th May, 2003.
