ABOUT THE INSTITUTE 
The Assam Institute of Management (AIM) is the only State Government sponsored autonomous management institute in the country.  In 1988, the Government of Assam promoted this institute to propagate professional management in the northeastern part of India.  The Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam is the ex-officio Chairman of the Institute.  Among others, the Director of IIM Calcutta is also the ex-officio member of the governing body.  PGDM programme of the institute is patterned after the IIMs.  Case studies, assignments, summer placement, project work, and group activities supplement the PGDM teaching.

AIM has seven full-time core faculty members. In addition, it has many eminent persons as adjunct faculty and regular guest faculties. Prof. Nikhil Barat, the Founder Professor of IIM Calcutta, who is Professor Emeritus of the AIM and holds the ONGC Chair in the institute, guides them. The faculty is also engaged in Research and Consultancy works. One AIM faculty won the first Prize for the Best Research Paper in the last Convention of the Association of Indian Mangement Schools (AIMS) held at Bangalore.

ACADEMIC STAFF

ELIGIBILITY

Step 1

AIM has announced admission to the 2001-2003 course starting from July 2001. The admission is through the ATMA, (AIMS test for Management Admission). ATMA is an all India level common admission test in line with the CAT. For details about ATMA, please see the national dailies of 16th October, 2000. On the basis of the ATMA performance, short listed applicants will be called for group discussions and Interview for final selections.

Note : students who may have cleared CAT/MAT and have been called for interview by leading institutions or who have passed Civil Services Prelims or any other UPSC examinations where graduation is the minimum qualifications or who have cleared NET/JRF etc. need not appear in ATMA. Similarly, Short Service Commissioned Officers or retired Commisioned officers of the Armed Forces are exempted from appearing in the written test.
