CAMPUS & ACADEMIC FACILITIES

Accommodation/Hostel Facilities : A limited number of hostel seats are available at Loyola Hostel (for R.C. Students) and at YMCA Hostel. Other students have to make their own arrangements in lodges and hostels in town. 100 bed Hostel by Ministry of Welfare, Govt. of Jharkhand for tribal girls will be ready by August, 2002.

Computing  : The Institute has a state of the art computer lab and resource centre. Recognising the challenges that the industry has put forth in terms of information technology, the institution's computer lab hosts a range of latest softwares, LAN facility with over 40 terminals and then necessary hardware support in synchronization with the needs.

Library : The Institute has a well stocked library containing over 32,000 volumes of books, journals, encyclopedias, almanacs and magazines. It subscribes to more than 100 periodicals and journals.

The minimum qualification required for the admission are the following :
a. Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Only candidates who have completed the three-year degree course will be considered for admissions. Candidates appearing for the final part of their degree examination may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, can take provisional admission provided their examinations are completed by 1st July, 2002. In case they are declared failed in their examination, their admission will stand cancelled automatically. No fees are refundable on this ground.
b. Applicants should have an adequate knowledge of English and Hindi. In case a student is not acquainted with Hindi, he or she should be willing to pick up a working knowledge of it during the first few months for effective participation in field work.
c. Candidates sponsored by organisation, Industries or State Governments, are welcome to apply, but they have to pass through the same procedures as other candidates and pay the same fees.
Seats Available : 60 percent of the total seats will be reserved for the State of Jharkhand including 33% for SC/ST and 7% for Christians.

ELIGIBILITY

Step 1

Procedure of Admission :
Candidates desirous of seeking admission have to appear either in XAT (XLRI Admission Test) conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur or the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association, New Delhi). Only the XAT scores of January 6, 2002 MAT, 2nd December 2001, and January 20, 2002 will be accepted. Candidates can appear in one, two or all the exams.
Based on the results of XAT or MAT, Candidates will be selected for the Viva - Voce test to be held at XISS during March & April 2002.

Step 2

How to apply :
1. a)  Applicants opting for XAT have to appear for the admission test to be conducted online by XLRI Jamshedpur at various centers all over India on January 6, 2002. To apply for this XAT exam, applicants have to logon to http://www.xlri.edu/register. Refer to the XAT advertisement in the newspapers during August & September 2001. Please note that application for the XAT exam is only via the internet. The XAT application fee of Rs. 900/- has to be paid to XLRI for which instructions are given on their website.
b) Alternatively candidates can obtain the Bulletin and the MAT Application Form from the AIMA-CMS, Management House, 14 Institutional Area, Lodi Road,
New Delhi - 110 003.
The Bulletin and the MAT Application Form can be procured by post on payment  Rs.500/- by Demand Draft in favour of AIMA-CMS, payable at New Delhi or in person from the Information Centre, at AIMA, New Delhi by a cash payment of Rs. 450/-. Consult AIMA advertisement for details about dates concerning MAT Application. After applying for XAT/MAT common test, candidates will also have to apply separately for the form of XISS.
2. Candidates can apply to XISS online at www.xiss-ranchi.org. Payment of Rs. 400/- in cash or Rs. 450/- by Demand Draft in favour of Xavier Institute of Social Service, payable at Ranchi may be made by mail.
3. While sending the DD, Candidates must indicate their choice i.e., PM/RD/IM, and
XAT-ID/Copy of MAT Application Form.
4. The XISS Application Form will be available online from 20th September 2001 till 22 January 2002. The last date for submitting the XISS application Form along with the photocopy of the filled-in MAT Application Form OR the XAT Candidate ID at XISS is 30 January 2002.

Step 3

Communication to Qualified Candidates :
The list of qualified candidates will be displayed on the XISS Notice Board on 5th March, 2002. The candidates called for Interview will also be informed by post. Inquiries about result can be made on the office Phone : 200873.
In selecting candidates the Institute proceeds on the basis of merit. A separate list is however maintained for ST/SC candidates. Any candidates/guardian who tries to exert undue pressure or influence either on the Selection Board or on any Faculty/Staff member runs the danger of being disqualified.
